Belgian Malinois

Belgian Malinois is a breed of dog that is highly valued for its high drive, intelligence, strong nerves and agility. Originally developed in Belgium for herding and guarding sheep, the breed has since become popular with law enforcement and military organizations around the world for their ability to perform a variety of tasks, including tracking, search and rescue, scent detection and protection work. Belgian Malinois adapt well to myriads of climates and are extremely quick to learn.

They are known for their athletic build, short, dense coat, and distinctive black mask.

Dutch Shepherds

Dutch Shepherds is a breed of dog that was originally developed in the Netherlands for herding and guarding livestock. Today, the breed is known for its versatility and is used in a variety of roles the same as a Malinois. Dutch Shepherds are medium-sized dogs with a lean, muscular build with a dense, wiry coat that comes in a variety of colours, including brindle, black, and blue. They are known for their high energy levels, intelligence, loyalty to their owners and are extremely resilient.

Currently in New Zealand, Dutch Shepherds are very rare breed and not well known. Dutch Shepherds have very similar traits to the Belgian Malinois and are equally matched and can be used in the same applications.
